This blog seems to be turning more into my food diary… I made homemade butternut squash soup yesterday evening and while it was simmering away, I fancied some bread and luckily had buttermilk in to make a small loaf of soda bread, which smelt and tasted lovely with the soup. Recipe from here. Slowly making my way through the bags of vegetables from the farm shop and enjoying trying to find different ways to use it up. I'm also doing a lot of sketchbook work at the moment and will hopefully have some new stuff to show soon.

We put out our christmas tree yesterday and took down the wreath and cards, always sad but it felt good to give the house a good clean, it helped clear the cobwebs from the mind. I also found a simple recipe for dinner from the River Cottage Veg book - Stir fried sesame cauliflower, which was nice and then the pregnancy cravings kicked in and I really wanted some fruit cake so baked tea bread late last night, yummy. During the day the hubby and I popped to a local farm shop where they offer a great deal on root veg, 5Kg of veg for £3, a bargain, so I plan to make lots of soups this week…..making soups mostly due to my crown falling out while eating a piece of toast earlier today. Rather embarrassing as its one of the front teeth, but amusing as I look funny when I smile! Had to laugh at myself.
Parsnip soup tonight… nice and warming.

Happy New Year, everyone! Hoping you all managed to have a lovely break.. though the weather here in the UK was rather wet and windy, with severe flooding in some areas, we did manage to have a few restful days to sit back and chill.
We celebrated the New Year in Liverpool with close friends who were having a party and it was a 30th birthday as well, had fun dressing up 80s style.
For our New Year resolutions this year we have decided to make simple changes - eat healthier; I want to cook more and find interesting ways to use up leftovers, trying one new recipe a week. Go for more walks and day trips away; appreciate this time of just us two before the baby arrives in May. Be more creative and get back on track, our day jobs and my morning sickness put a hold on everything in the last few months and after discussing ideas with the hubby, I have some ideas on what direction I want to take.
So here's to 2014, it's going to be rather life changing!!

Enjoyed some brunch with friends yesterday, our last get together before Christmas to exchange presents and catch up. Sausage sarnies, fresh baked croissants and fresh fruit and yoghurt.. yummy.
Still have a few more presents to get and have to face the food shop - Busy busy!

Thought I would share a few pics of our Christmas tree - I love this time of the year, dark nights, twinkling lights and lots of chocolates. Only a few more days of work left before I can relax, visit family and catch up on films and reading books...good times!

It's been a while but I have been away travelling around Germany and Austria; enjoying Christmas markets, mulled wine (non-alcoholic) and eating lots. Our travels started in Munich before exploring the border to Austria and visiting Innsbruck. It was cold but plenty of mulled wine kept us going. We definitely want to explore Austria more as the mountain landscape was stunning! The trip got us in the mood for Christmas, not long now!
The markets were very busy but there was a lovely atmosphere. Made sure I tried the different sausages on offer and stews but I was soon looking for vegetarian options after a few days there.
We came across some stunning views on our drive down to Austria..
Love these trees in Innsbruck made up of lights.. so pretty

The reason for the long silence on here… we're expecting a baby and I have been suffering terribly with morning sickness, though in my case, all day sickness! I have just gone 14 weeks and slowly starting to feel better (fingers crossed). Cooking and baking have been put on hold as I can't bear strong smells, the poor husband has had the task of cooking and cleaning. I'm also sorry to say that I can't face anything sweet at the moment like cakes or sweets, sad times as I had wanted to bake my first ever Christmas cake. I hope to get back on track with some creative projects soon and I have a trip booked to visit the Christmas markets in Munich and Innsbruck, much to look forward to…exciting times people!
